BGB was founded in 2012 with the goal of providing an answer to the growing shortage of qualified dentists in the Netherlands. As of 2023 we’ve helped over 300 dentists with 18 nationalities. Besides that, the scope of our work has increased greatly and we’re proud to say that we help our dentists with everything related to starting a new life and career as a dentist in Holland.
Our complete program includes a language course including Dentistry Dutch, a guaranteed job at a Dutch dental clinic, a BIG registration, help & guidance with practical matters such as housing and insurances, and continued career guidance of our BGB dentists. And last but not least, a sense of community through events, parties, and BGB masterclasses.
Helping foreign dentists and Dutch dental clinics
Offering a complete program to start a new career in Holland
Our main focus has always been on dentists with an EU diploma and an EU passport. However, in 2023 we decided to explore the possibilities of helping foreign dentists with a non-European diploma. The requirement is that they do hold EU nationality, since this will make the process at least somewhat easier. The trial is still running, and we're excited to learn more about this process so we can maybe help other European dentists (with a non-EU diploma) in the future.
The 300th dentist joined our program in 2022, and even though our program & course are always in motion, the goal never changes. We're happy that even 10 years after we started, we're still able to help foreign dentists start a new career in the Netherlands, ánd that we're able to help Dutch dental clinics finding good, and skilled dentists to work in a Dutch dental clinic. As of 2022, we've welcomed 18 nationalities in our program. We've helped dentists from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Lithuania, Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Latvia, Hungary, Croatia, the Czech Republic, the UK, Germany, Sweden, Cyprus, Moldova and Albania.
10-year anniversary
Time flies, and in 2022 we celebrated our 10-year anniversary. For this special occassion, we organized a party near Utrecht for all our dentists, colleagues, and other important people we've collaborated with in these last 10 years. We even created our own magazine to celebrate, and look back at all the milestones and memories. Luckily, we have the aftermovie to remember this evening!
Throughout the years, more and more dentists who were already in the Netherlands asked us if we also offer specific Dutch courses for dentists. To meet this demand, we started helping dentists in Holland who have already reached a B1 level, but want to focus on Dentistry Dutch and exam preparation for the Dutch language exam for Medical Professionals.
Moving to Koog aan de Zaan
In 2020 we decided to leave Amsterdam as the homebase of our headquarters, and move to the quaint little town of Koog aan de Zaan, only a stone's throw away from Amsterdam. Our office is now located at walking distance from the popular landmark 'Zaanse Schans', famous for its windmills and traditional houses. At this location, we have more space for our expanding team, and the possibility to organize courses at our office. Oh, and we have a garden for our summer parties!
CRKBO registration
CRKBO stands for Central Short Register for Professional Education and the register includes institutions that comply with the quality code for training institutions for short professional education. In 2019 we took an audit, and after successfully passing this audit, we were registered in the CRKBO register. A new milestone for our Academy!
BGB Dentistry & course hotel in Seefeld in Tirol
2019 was a very exciting year for us! We continued as an independent company under the new name of BGB Dentistry, and we decided to lease the course hotel for our BGB Academy in Seefeld in Tirol, Austria. Prior to 2019, this was already our course location but in 2019, we started to lease the whole hotel. A new name, the same location yet a different set-up, and a lot of motivation to continue helping more foreign dentists to start a new career in the Netherlands.
The 200th dentist joined our program
In 2018 we welcomed the 200th dentist who wanted to start a new career in the Netherlands with the help of BGB. Since 2015, our program was already open to other nationalities and by 2018, dentists from Spain, Portugal, Italy, Lithuania, Greece, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Latvia and Hungary started collaborating with us.
Obligatory language exam for medical professionals
In 2017 the government implemented new rules for foreign medical professionals who want to work in the Netherlands. Before, there were no requirements with regards to language level. This changed in 2017 with the implementation of an obligatory language exam for medical professionals, such as dentists. This required some changes, but due to the fact that our course already focused on Dentistry Dutch, we were able to adapt to this new situation quickly. We've added an exam training to our course, and we're also allowed to administer the exam ourselves while adhering to the requirements of the exam and the required B2+ level.
Mobile dental bus project
In 2016 we started a new project called 'De Tandartsbus'. The project aimed to provide free dental care for children in refugee centers in the Netherlands. With a mobile dental bus, that functions like a dental clinic on wheels, we were able to visit different refugee centers in the Netherlands to provide dental care to over 700 children. Several of our dentists collaborated, and we were happy to make a contribution to the refugee situation in the Netherlands in this way.
The 100th dentist joined our program
After the start of our project in 2012, and the first dentists following our language course in 2013, we already welcomed the 100th dentist who entered our program in 2015! In the first years, we mainly focussed on dentists from Spain and Portugal. However, in 2015 we first welcomed other nationalities such as Italian and Lithuanian.
The start of recruiting foreign dentists for the Dutch labor market
In 2012 two companies, EDE and DPA Spanish professionals, came together with a mission: to solve the problem of the shortage of dentists in the Netherlands by recruiting Spanish & Portuguese dentists for the Dutch labor market. This was the start of our project.
