In this case, the process is longer, since it doesn’t only consist of the registration itself, but also of the recognition of the diploma and of your skills as a dentist. There are several possible scenarios:
- You have a diploma and nationality from outside the EEA:
In this case you would need to apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands (this could be arranged through your employer, if they are in the position to provide you with a sponsorship – for more info you can look up Highly skilled migrant | IND). Additionally, your diploma must be recognized by the BIG register by applying first for a Certificate of Competence. You will need to provide the BIG with a list of documents and to take two exams (AKV toets and BI-toets), through which both your language and your dentistry skills will be assessed. Upon passing all of these exams, you will receive your Certificate of Competence and can proceed with the registration. This process could take between 1 and 2 years.
- You have a diploma from outside the EEA and a nationality (passport) from the EEA:
In this case you will not need to apply for a residence permit, but as far as your diploma is concerned, the procedure is the same as by the previous case (Certificate of Competence).
- You have a diploma from outside the EEA which has been recognized in a country from the EEA, and you have a nationality from within the EEA.
In this case, the additional requirement to apply for a procedure named Recognition Professional Qualifications is to have worked for at least 3 years in the country of the EEA where your diploma has been recognized. This procedure consists of sending the documents related to your studies, and these will be evaluated. Upon successful evaluation, you may proceed with the registration.
- You have a diploma from outside the EEA that has been recognized in a country from the EEA, and you have a nationality from outside the EEA.
In this case you would need to apply for a residence permit in the Netherlands (this could be arranged through your employer, if they are in the position to provide you with a sponsorship – for more info you can look up Highly skilled migrant | IND).
